AS construction work at the Railway Triangle goes full steam ahead, a new name for the site has been chosen.
Triangle Way will be the new home for a Morrisons superstore in September.
The site, off Metz Way, is a key redevelopment area in Gloucester and will eventually become a light industrial park creating thousands of new jobs.
The new name for the site was the one suggested by most residents and has now been agreed by the Royal Mail.
City council leader Paul James said: "We had lots of ideas thanks to the help of Citizen readers.
"Triangle Way was suggested by most people. Perhaps it was obvious all along, but it's good to know that it will be a popular name amongst Gloucester folk.
"I'd like to thank everyone who took the trouble to contact me with suggestions."
Other names that were rejected included T Station Road, Brunel Way and New Yard Road, to link it to the history of the railway.
Resident Sufyan Ghanti wanted to call it New York Way. He said: "I feel that Gloucester needs to sit up and be counted as a modern, forward-thinking city in the UK.
"It would be a bold move. It's out-of-the-box and something different. The name sounds glamorous and appealing."
Iain Fairbrother said that his daughter had suggested the name Chugalong Way.
Awdry Way was suggested by Ann Smith after the creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who lived in Rodborough.
Some of the rejected names may be revived and adopted by buildings on the site.
City MP Richard Graham said: "We should all be proud that the Railway Triangle is being transformed from an embarrassing eyesore at the entrance to our city to a light industrial park.
"It is a derelict slab of contaminated land being replaced with growth, jobs and a quarter of a million of pounds of new trees."
