OFFICIALS say it could be Monday before the body of a man found in the River Severn, near Tewkesbury, is formally identified.

The discovery was made by the police outside the Lower Lode Inn on Wednesday morning.

It followed them searching for missing man Terry Nield since Sunday.

The 56-year-old lived at Lower Lode and had worked as the pub's ferryman for the last two summer seasons. He was reported missing on Sunday, just over 24 hours after last he was last seen at the Haw Bridge Inn at Tirley.

It is thought he sailed his boat back to Lower Lode, where it was found moored, along with his locked van and his dog.

A spokesman for Gloucestershire coroner's service said yesterday that the formal identification of the body was not expected to happen until Monday.
