A BAND from Cheltenham has become an online sensation after performing live on one of Britain's most popular TV shows.
Six-piece pop outfit Young Kato got a prominent showing on the first episode of the new series of Made in Chelsea this week, performing songs Light and Drink, Dance, Play.
It left social media sites buzzing with excited chatter about the group and the band's name trending on Twitter worldwide.
Even celebrity chef Jamie Oliver weighed in to voice his approval and wish the band luck for their future tour.
Lead singer Tommy Wright, a former pupil at Bournside, said the band had been inundated with enquiries since the Channel 4 appearance.
The 20-year-old said: "It has given us an incredible amount of exposure and nearly all the feedback has been positive.
"Made in Chelsea is such a big show and when the producers called to ask if we'd like to go on it, we knew it was a great opportunity.
"As well as having a huge following it is a show which prides itself on featuring some of the best new music so from that point of view it was great to be asked."
Tommy said he and fellow band members were astounded at the response on Twitter. "We started trending worldwide," he added. "At one stage we were creeping up on Justin Bieber.
"It was great to have some nice things said by Jamie Oliver and the actors from Made in Chelsea were also very complimentary.
"But for us the main thing was about having the chance to bring in new fans."
It is the latest step towards the big time for the band, formerly known as The Dirty Tricks.
As well as Tommy, Young Kato is made up of former Bournside and Balcarras pupils Jack Edwards, Sam Henderson, Harry Steele, Joe Lever and Joe Green.
They are set to release their new single Something Real on June 3 and are embarking on a nationwide tour which culminates in a performance at The 2 Pigs in Cheltenham on June 15.
"It's where it all started for us," added Tommy. "It will be great to come back and play there again."
