SHOPPERS flocked to a new city centre store when it opened at 8am today.
The new Tesco Express store at The Eastgate Shopping Centre in Gloucester has opened in the former JJB sports shop.
Next to the Bell Walk in Southgate Street, it was very busy from the off.
"I thought it was brilliant," said Bill Banks, from Hardwicke, who normally uses the Quedgeley superstore.
"I just got a general shop done and they had everything I needed."
He said with Sainsburys at the opposite end of the city centre, in Northgate Street, there was plenty of choice for customers now.
"I know they're not shops run independently but they are filling a space," he said.
An official ribbon cutting ceremony took place at the new store too.
