Flooding at the Knoll in Tuffley "could cause tragic accident"

WATER spilling onto a road in Tuffley could cause a tragic accident. That is according to Lesley Bailey, from Tuffley, who is calling for the issue to be resolved before someone gets hurt.

The drain at The Knoll Care Home, in Stroud Road, often becomes blocked during periods of heavy rain and the water spills down the drive and out into the street.

"That is fine for road traffic, but a nightmare for pedestrians," said Lesley.

"When the water freezes, which it often does, vehicles leaving the drive slide and pedestrians are at risk of falling – it does not take much imagination to see that sooner or later, a vehicle will slide into oncoming traffic or a pedestrian will fall into the path of a passing vehicle."

She said that last week there was a leak in the middle of Stroud Road "with water pouring down the road to the St Barnabas roundabout".

It was dealt with in hours, but she said the problem at The Knoll had been there for years.

Gloucester city councillor Gerald Dee agreed that the drain had been an issue for some time.

He said: "This problem is not isolated to The Knoll, there are problems with the drainage all the way along Stroud Road.

"If there is an issue with ice, I can give them a bag of salt to help.

"However, the drainage issue is a bigger one. It is a cause for concern. The drains are not adequate to deal with excessive amounts of water."

Meanwhile, a spokesman for The Knoll Care Home said the problem is being looked at.

She said: "We are aware of it and the estate manager is getting someone to look at it."
