Gardening goddess Charlie Dimmock says she never thought of herself as a 'sex symbol'.

The water feature queen of TV's Ground Force brushed off her sexy status in the gardening world as she launched the Gloucester Quays Home and Garden Party today.

She was given a helping hand by hunky handyman Tommy Walsh, who she starred alongside in the hit TV series fronted by Yorkshireman Alan Titchmarsh.

The builder said Charlie's sex symbol status was 'a bit strange' but admitted the duo behave 'like a married couple'.

When asked if she was still an outdoor world pin-up, Charlie, now 46, joked: "Not these days, I'm too old now. I never considered myself a sex symbol in the first place."

And Tommy, who measures in at 6ft 5in, added: "It was always a bit strange wasn't it but the funny thing was when we were working up this way in Gloucester, Alan had been voted third most sexiest male in the world and when he told us we both fell over laughing.

"We couldn't stop laughing for half an hour. He had a little yellow hat on and looked like a Fisherman's Friend. He said 'what you laughing at' and we said 'look at you, you are the world's third sexiest man', and then I said 'get a mirror'."

Charlie and Tommy talk to The Citizen

Charlie is today showing off her extensive knowledge of water features and containers while Tommy is turning his hand to some creative projects with old tat.

He said: "I'll be doing demos on how to use off-cuts of materials or cheap elements to turn them into something positive and useful.. a bit like Alan Titchmarsh."

And Charlie said that the second annual event at the Quays was perfect timing for gardeners.

She said: "Easter is the time that everybody starts getting out in the garden even though its freezing cold."

And the duo seemed happy to be the star guests at the day.

Tommy said: "It's a lot easier when you are doing it as a two hander."

And Charlie added: "You run out of steam but Tommy never does."

They will be quickly followed by TV gardener Rachel de Thame, who decorated the Queen's Royal Barge, and flamboyant interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen on Sunday.

Then on Monday gardening queen Carol Klein and property expert Martin Roberts will be offering their best tips to some of the expected 60,000 visitors.

There is also live music and a selection of up to 90 market stalls to enjoy.

See pictures from the weekend in Monday's Citizen.
