COUNCIL chiefs are urging people to sign up to a garden waste recycling scheme.
Cheltenham Borough Council's initiative sees residents issued with a 240-litre brown wheeled bin for their garden waste, which will be emptied fortnightly.
Grass cuttings, hedge and shrub cuttings, leaves, twigs, bark, plants, flowers, weeds and windfall fruit can all go into the bin.
New customers signing up to the garden waste service will receive 14 months' subscription for the price of 12, costing £36.
Existing customers who renew their subscription before the renewal date will receive a £2 discount, so they will pay £34 for the year instead of the usual £36. Customers will be contacted before their renewal date to be reminded of the offer.
Councillor Roger Whyborn, cabinet member for sustainability said: ''I would encourage residents to take part in the scheme.
"It's vital that we all recognise the importance of keeping waste out of landfill so that it doesn't produce harmful substances which damage the environment.
"All the garden waste that we collect is composted and re-used as a soil conditioner.''
