Imagine Sherlock Holmes rushing through parts of Cheltenham searching for clues in bid to crack his latest big case.
The scenes could be elementary after a production company representing BBC drama Sherlock, starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role, applied to film parts of the new series in the town.
The hit show, a modern twist on Arthur Conan Doyle's classic tales, could be shot in Suffolk Parade over the coming weeks.
It raises the prospect of Cumberbatch haring through the town in his signature deer-stalker hat as he outwits devious criminal masterminds – aided by his trusty sidekick Watson, played by Office star Martin Freeman.
Councillor Klara Sudbury (LD, College) was contacted by the production company as ward councillor for the area in which they want to film.
"It's certainly an exciting idea and something I would welcome," she said.
"We've got some beautiful architecture in Cheltenham and I'm sure it would make for an atmospheric setting."
An application has gone in to Gloucestershire Highways asking for parking restrictions to be lifted in Suffolk Parade to allow filming to go ahead.
A spokesman for the authority said: "We were approached by the BBC about parking its vans in Suffolk Parade for filming and we asked the production company to consult with local businesses to make them aware of any potential disruption during this period.
"They have now done that and we have given them permission to park on the road for the time requested."
Leaders at Cheltenham Tourism welcomed the move.
Sue Adie, press and marketing manager, said: "Anything which helps to promote Cheltenham as a destination is good news for the town."
Cumberbatch was seen filming in Bristol this week for the third series, which is due to air later this year. The BBC remained tight-lipped on when it would film in Cheltenham.
