Undiscovered Roman temple and villa could be under the grounds of Sudeley Castle

ARCHAEOLOGISTS believe there could be an undiscovered Roman temple and villa in the grounds of Sudeley Castle.
They are calling for an archaeological investigation at Stancombe Wood in Winchcombe.
Their claim comes after the discovery of a Roman sculpture which has been missing for almost 100 years.
Now the castle team have discovered a Roman column within the castle, which was found propping open a door.
The Rev Professor Martin Henig believes the column, which would have been only about 40cm high, would most likely have stood on the dwarf wall of a portico of a temple or private house.
He says these small columns are unusual in this region, and therefore indicate the existence of a building of unusual sophistication in or around Sudeley.
This follows the discovery earlier this month of a stone relief of a Cotswolds Roman god, called Cunomaglos or the Hound Prince.
