A PUBLIC local inquiry is now looming over the controversial closure of the Halfway House pub in Stroud.
The hearing, on a date still to be announced, will take place now the former inn's owners the Novalis Trust have appealed against council action over them using the Halfway as a cafe and catering facility.
The trust earlier shut the pub at Box in Minchinhampton in the face of a 1,500 name petition from people who wished to save it.
Novalis, which operates the Cotswold Chine School, then re-opened the Halfway as a training cafe for its students which is open to the public.
It argues there has simply not been a breach of planning conrol.
