The Met Office is warning of significant disruption today as a blanket of snow falls across the county. A Yellow Warning for snow is in place as a slow-moving band of rain, sleet and snow hit central and South West England today. The Forest of Dean is particularly badly hit with around one centimetre of snow already settled by 8am this morning. Approximately two inches of snow has fallen overnight in Littledean and it is still coming down heavily. Meanwhile, three inches of snow means Cinderford RFC's game against Old Albanians at Dockham Road has been called off. Gloucester City Football Club has now confirmed that its away game at Bishops Stortford has been called off too. Bishop's Cleeve's home game against Cirencester Town today has now been called off. But Cheltenham Town's clash with Barnet today will go ahead, however, with Barnet appealing for volunteers to help clear the pitch. Meanwhile, Gloucester RFC's game with London Welsh is set to go ahead as planned. Tomorrow's Forest of Dean half-marathon has now been postponed due to the weather. A flood alert has now been issued by the Environment Agency for the River Severn from Tewkesbury to Gloucester. A level taken this morning at the Mythe Gauge was 2.62metres and rising. A peak level of between 3 and 3.5metres is expected tomorrow morning. Due to the snow, the disability cycling event organised by Active Gloucestershire at the Prince of Wales Stadium in Cheltenham has been postponed. The snow is causing problems on the county's roads with a car flipping onto its roof this morning on the A417 in Cirencester, southbound at the A429 Burford Road. One lane was closed while the vehicle was recovered but it has now been cleared. Nobody was seriously injured in the incident. Flooding at the Priory Road junction of the A417 St oswald's Road in Gloucester is causing delays for motorists. Meanwhile, a community clear-up day in Brockworth has also fallen victim to the weather. It has been cancelled because the ground is slippery underfoot. A statement on the Met Office website said: "Further significant snow accumulations are likely on hills, with continued drifting and blizzard conditions in the strong southeasterly winds. "At lower levels, some areas could see 5-10 cm of snow, though details on locations most at risk remains very uncertain at this stage. "The public should be aware of the continued risk of significant disruption." Gatcombe Horse Trials in Minchinhamtpon, due to take place this weekend, have now been called off today and tomorrow. Temperatures are likely to stay between -1c and - 2c today but are expected to fall even further tomorrow.
