MORE than 1,300 people have objected to plans to build homes in the Slad Valley.
It is one of the largest numbers of objections to a planning application ever received by Stroud District Council.
The 1,300 are opposed to plans by Gladman Developments to build 140 homes on Baxter's Field below Summer Street.
"We were getting good numbers of objections all through the campaign but this week it's gone mad," said Phil Coysh from the Slad Valley Action Group.
"Only a few days ago we counted around 600 objections and now it's well over 1,300."
The action group has submitted its own comprehensive objection.
"It shows conclusively this is the wrong development in the wrong place," said campaigner Andy Dickinson.
"We've shown the damaging impact it would have on the beautiful countryside, that it would damage tourism and wouldn't provide the economic benefits building in other locations would offer."
Gladman says the estate would secure substantial economic benefits in a sustainable location and create a country park. Objections had to be submitted by Friday but Stroud District Council has said it will continue to accept comments.
