Ted Veale, with two-time winning jockey Bryan Cooper coated in mud on board, came from behind to overhaul Tennis Cap at the final hurdle to win the 14.05 Vincent O'Brien Handicap Hurdle.
This result chalked up a third victory for Cooper at Cheltenham Festival.
David Casey riding Tennis Cap was backed by Herbert and led from the start of the race, before finishing second.
Manyriverstocross was third and Shadow Catcher was fourth.
Denis O'Regan aboard Cotton Mill was favourite for the race but didn't live up to expectations.
Strong favourite At Fishers Cross, ridden by AP McCoy, took the lead with one to jump to win the the 2.40 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle, the longest novice hurdles race of the Festival in emphatic style.

African Gold, with the in-form Sam Twiston-Davies on board, finished second and Inish Island, ridden by Ruby Walsh was third.

Bob's Worth was ridden by Barry Geraghty who also expressed his concern over the conditions of JT McNamara post-race.
Sir Des Champs, ridden by A P McCoy finished second while Long Run, took an early lead but could not hold on.
Silvianico Conti, ridden by Ruby Walsh and backed by Herbert, fell with three to go while Monbeg Dude, owned by Gloucester rugby players James Simpson-Daniel and Mike Tindall and in the hands of Sam Twiston Davies trailed off.
Herbert backed Silvianico Conti in first, Bobs Worth in second and The Giant Bolster in third.
In a dramatic finish, Oscar Delta threw jockey Jane Mangan with less than a furlong left and favourite Salsify came from behind to win the extended three mile CGA Foxhunter Steeplechase at 16.00 on Gold Cup Day.
Salsify, in the hands of Colm Sweeney was favourite for this race amongst the 28 horses riding and also backed by Herbert.
Divine Intavention was second, Cottage Oak came third and Doctor Kingsley finished fourth.
Trainer Paul Nicholls' finally had a winner today. Salubrious, in the hands of Harry Derman came from behind to win the 16.40 Martin Pipe Conditional Jockey's Handicup Hurdle and overhaul Double Ross.
Nicholls' described his bad fortune so far this week as 'character-building' and was emotional in the post-race interview.
Nagpur finished second, Double Ross was third and Make Your Mark was fourth.
Gevrey Chambertin was pre-race favourite and was going well before fading fast with two to jump to end up out of contention.
The final race of the 2013 Cheltenham Festival, the Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase, was won by Alderwood, ridden by AP McCoy.
Second was Kid Cassidy and third was Oiseau de Nuit and Drumshambo was fourth.
