Beer fans have two new watering holes at which to quench their thirst.
The King's Head in Blakeney has reopened under new management and a micro-pub has sprung up in the old district council offices in Newent.
Andrew and Emma Middlecote have taken over the reins at the King's Head and are convinced the pub trade can still survive and even thrive.
"There's still money to be made in pubs if you're prepared to work hard and do a lot of it yourself," said Andrew, who is better known in the Dean for his turns as a singer under the name Jabba. He used to run The Swan in Cinderford before moving to Turkey as an entertainer, where he met wife Emma.
The couple have two children, Oliver, four, and Callum, two, and are keen their new pub has a strong family ethos, having been closed for the past three months.
Meanwhile, Ian Jones is the brains behind new micro-pub Cobblers in Church Street, Newent.
It may be small, but is perfectly formed, according to manager David Brown.
"The idea is it is somewhere quiet to come and enjoy very good ale, cider and a few wines," he said.
"There's no lager, no television, no under-18s and no fruit machines.
"It's about conversation. People have said it's like having a drink in their front room, but with a few more people to talk to."
Cobblers opens Wednesday to Saturday from noon to 2pm and 5pm to 9pm. On Sundays it is open noon to 6pm.
