A 67-year-old Stroud pensioner has been tricked out of a sapphire and diamond eternity ring by cunning distraction thieves.
The thieves entered the pensioner's home on Dryleaze, in Wotton, through a door in the front of the house.
They were then disturbed by the woman as she realised they had entered her home.
When confronted, the offenders told her that they were police officers.
The offenders continued their search of the property and then left taking with them a sapphire and diamond eternity ring, a gold eternity ring with ruby and diamond and around £100 cash from the victim's purse.
The ordeal happened on Monday between 7.15pm and 7.45pm.
Police in Stroud are appealing for witnesses and reminding residents to protect themselves from distraction burglaries.
The first offender is described as white, in his 20s or 30s around 5ft 6ins tall and of muscular build. He was wearing a grey cable-knit sweater.
The second man was described as white, between 20 and 30,again around 5ft 6ins tall and less muscular than the first. He was wearing a black coat, black woolly hat and a black scarf over his face.
Insp Andy Poole said: "This goes to show these people will try anything to trick their way into victim's homes. These kinds of burglaries are always so despicable because the offenders deliberately target the most vulnerable members of society.
"We will, of course, do all we can to locate the offenders and to investigate this matter fully as we continue to crack down on distraction burglaries across Gloucestershire".
Anyone with information that could help the investigation should call police on 101 quoting incident 397 of February 25.
