A man has been jailed for a burglary in which an elderly woman had cash stolen from her while she watched television in her Ledbury home.
Richard Davis, 30, of Barnett Avenue, Ledbury, was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison for the offence, following his appearance at Worcester Crown Court.
He had previously admitted sneaking into the woman's house via the back door on 5 December 2012 and stealing £240.
The victim, a woman in her 90s, was in her lounge when she heard a noise upstairs. She then saw a man run past her and realised afterwards that the money had been taken from a tin in her bedroom.
Detective Sergeant Tim Dugmore from Hereford CID's burglary team said: "The victim had set this cash aside for Christmas presents and when Davis stole it, she had no income or other means to replace it.
"Thanks to the PC Fund, we were able to reimburse her this money before Christmas, which meant that she could enjoy the festive period and buy presents for people as she had intended.
"We are satisfied with the sentence handed to Davis and hope it sends a clear message to others who think it's ok to sneak into people's homes and steal from them, that we will do everything in our power to catch and prosecute burglars."
The sentence was handed down on Monday, 11 February.
