THE Flat Stanley Project is an international educational initiative involving hundreds of schools from around the world. The project was inspired by the children's books written by Jeff Brown.
In these books a boy called Stanley becomes flat enough to travel the world in an envelope. Stanley has many wonderful adventures.
The concept of travelling the world by envelope has become virtual reality for our pupils as they create their own Stanley's and post them off to far flung places.
St Edward's Stanley's are proving to be a valuable learning tool as our pupils exchange ideas, photographs, questions and lifestyle tips with school children overseas.
We made some Flat Stanley's and sent them to schools all over the world including Taiwan, Alaska, Malawi, Abu Dhabi, Turkey and Nigeria.
We have also received visiting Flat Stanley's from Alaska, Malawi and the USA. We get to hear where our Flat Stanley's have been and we see photographs which are fascinating.
When we receive Flat Stanley's we take them home and take pictures with the Flat Stanley's in.
The project has been very interesting and allowed us to find out about places from snowy Alaska to boiling Malawi and from poor Nigeria to rich Abu Dhabi.
