It's a magical carousel and is truly unique.
There's only one Rolls Royce fairground carousel in the world – and Gloucester man Matthew Stevens has just got his hands on it.
The ornate 1930 carousel was built by workers at the car manufacturer's former Derby factory.
After the Second World War it found itself in the hands of a string of multi-millionaires who squirrelled it away in vast private collections.
But 46-year-old Mr Stevens, who comes from nine generations of a fairground family, has bought it for an undisclosed six-figure sum from a millionaire former racing driver.
He said: "This is like an art lover buying a Picasso.
"Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine owning it. It's beautiful and one of its kind."
Mr Stevens is sending it to London to by restored by a specialist. The work is expected to take several months.
It will then go on tour across the country and is to take pride and place at the Gloucestershire Motor Show at Highnam Court on June 9 and 10.
Mr Stevens, from West End Parade, wants to bring it back to its full magical quality.
"I think I'm the first person to own it that isn't a millionaire," he said.
"I grew up on a fairground so I'm very excited to get started on this project.
"There is only one of it and it has never really been used in public.
"It will be great to get it into use so that as many people as people can enjoy it."
