A CIRENCESTER man faces an attempted murder charge after stabbing a woman on Christmas Eve.

Lee Farrell had initially been charged with grievous bodily harm and wounding with intent.

But Gloucester Crown Court has now been told that a charge of attempted murder would be put forward by the prosecution.

The 29-year-old, from Apsley Road, has been remanded in custody and is yet to enter a plea to the charges.

Prosecutor Rachel Scott said the charge was being changed after new information had come to light.

She said: "Evidence has come forward to the Crown that suggests he intended to kill and so we are going to charge Mr Farrell with attempted murder."

Hearing

Judge Jamie Tabor QC ordered Farrell, who appeared by video link, to make another appearance on April 12 for a plea and case management hearing. Defence solicitor Frazer Stuart made no submissions to the court.

A woman in her 20s was reportedly stabbed in the abdomen, thigh and arm at a house on Apsley Road just before 11pm on Christmas Eve.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance to Swindon's Great Western Hospital with multiple injuries, although they were not believed to be life-threatening.
