All Saints' School - Skyfall review

IT has been breaking box-office records, but is Skyfall actually any good?

Now the cash registers have stopped ringing for cinema in 2012, the latest James Bond adventure has blown away all competition, becoming not only the biggest-grossing film of the year, but of all time in the UK.

But is biggest always best?

I loved Skyfall because it managed to keep the Bond conventions we know and love – gadgets, girls, spectacular action sequences in exotic locations, ludicrous baddie, big bellowing theme tune with Adele doing her best Shirley Bassey impersonation – while also making it modern and different.

This Bond is old, and often feels it.

You can ignore the plot holes (Javier Bardem's baddie going to ludicrous lengths to kill Judi Dench's M when Bond merely breaks into her flat) and slightly silly last 15 minutes and just enjoy the rest, setting things up nicely for the next episode.

I suspect Skyfall will be better remembered than the previous holder of biggest grossing film – Avatar.
