Berry Hill and Drybrook joined county neighbours Newent in the last 16 of their respective RFU knockout cup competitions. Western Counties North side Hill avenged the league defeat against division leaders Hornets from earlier in the season by toppling them 32-28 at home in a high-scoring encounter in the Intermediate Cup. Gloucester Premier's second placed outfit Drybrook returned from Somerset Premier table toppers Chew Valley with a 26-12 success to cap off a fantastic season so far. The Mannings Ground outfit won a competition to host the launch of the new England playing kit earlier in the season and now have twice the reason to celebrate. Both teams will now go forward into the next round with Berry Hill travelling to St Austell on February 2 and Drybrook making the journey to Teignmouth. Gloucester One leaders Newent, who beat Cheltenham Saracens 40-3 in Gloucester Three today, will welcome New Cross in the Junior Vase on the same day after knocking out St Bernadette's Old Boys 26-10 three days before Christmas. Meanwhile Lydney saw their run of three straight National Two South wins ended at Canterbury after going down 22-9 in Kent. In the same division there was a shock at third placed Hartpury after the students lost only their second home game of the season following the 26-18 reverse against Launceston to fall six points off top spot. Old Patesians put in a spirited performance in their 29-11 defeat at National Three South's second placed side Exmouth ahead of the visit of leaders London Irish Wild Geese next week. Town rivals Cheltenham continued their resurgence following their third win in a row after beating Bletchley 20-18 to move further clear of the South West One East drop zone. In the same division Coney Hill were hammered 71-12 at home to table toppers Bracknell while second placed Old Centralians remain hard on the heels of them. The Saintbridge men shut out south coast side Swanage and Wareham 36-0 to record their 13th consecutive success and remain five points behind Bracknell with a game in hand to play against Newbury.
