Armed police officers fired shots at a car in Gloucester early this morning, after a suspected attempted raid on a business premises.
Two men have been arrested and are currently being questioned after an incident in Painswick Road.
Police said they sent armed officers because they considered there was the potential threat to public safety.
Gloucestershire Constabulary confirmed that two men, aged 28 and 33, and from Gloucester were arrested at around 5.50am today (December 31) in the Painswick Road area of the city on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.
"Armed officers who were in attendance discharged a firearm in order to disable a vehicle," said a force spokesman.
"No one was harmed as a result of the use of the firearm."
The spokesman said the arrested men remain in police custody.
