GOODWILL infused Gloucester revellers yesterday giving police an unseasonably peaceful night.
Officers are usually run off their feet dealing with assaults and scuffles in the city centre.
The 15 cells at Gloucester police station are normally full by Sunday morning but this morning had just six people in them,
Officers on the beat were surprised but just how peaceful it was.
Only 68 incidents were reported in the Gloucester area between 11pm yesterday and midday today.
Response Inspector Steve Burnside said: "That's very low indeed. We would expect to see twice that generally.
"There were a lot of people out but it was a relatively peaceful evening.
"Quieter than most weekends even.
"Everybody seemed in good spirits."
By midnight Liquid had about 800 people in it, The Regal had 290 and Fever had 500 revellers inside.
Eastgate Street, which is a trouble hotspot usually was full of happy-looking clubbers.
Many of them were sporting festive fancy dress and cheerfully wished officers 'Merry Christmas' as they passed.
One officer on foot patrol said: "We expected it to be manic.
"I have been stood on this street before and felt really scared.
"But there has been nothing major tonight."
Officers from the mobile response unit also had a quiet night.
They were called out to Quedgeley by a taxi driver who said a woman has refused to pay her fare.
Officers found the woman walking home and her elderly mother was called to come and pick her up.
There were also reports of a patient being aggressive to ambulance staff, disorder outside Zest and a scuffle between rugby players.
The officer said it was a stark contrast to normal. "Nights like this are usually horrific and we are chasing our tails all night.
"The cells get full up and then we can be at the station waiting to book someone in for two hours.
"Then if a big fight kicks off in the city centre we're in trouble."
