IT'S fingers crossed for a dry and bright Christmas Day as forecasters predict this week's rain will recede over the next few days.
After the recent torrential downpours and threats of flooding, the Met Office still has amber warnings of heavy rain for today but with the clouds giving way to a less severe yellow alert into tomorrow.
The surface water which disrupted train and some road travel in the region early yesterday is still around and has left lasting effects.
In Uley, a landslide closed the lane from The Crown pub up to Owlpen.
Gloucestershire Police were notified of the slip and said the route would remain shut until further notice. They warned too drivers could keep safe by thinking about their greater time it took to stop in the wet.
"In poor weather allow extra time to complete your journey. Don't forget braking distances can more than double on wet roads," Sergeant Kevin Roseblade said. "Drivers are urged to make sure their vehicles are in a good condition before setting out," he said.
The Environment Agency said flood warnings had been lifted in 50 areas in the South West.
