Elliott Stooke is determined to make up for lost time in the LV=Cup.

The giant second-row has found opportunities limited this season despite impressing under Nigel Davies.

He was a virtual ever-present feature last year, making 30 appearances and earning his first senior contract.

The 21-year-old has run out 17 times in the current campaign but they have come largely from the bench.

But Stooke has enjoyed two 80 minute performances in recent weeks and he is relishing the opportunity to unleash his frustrations in the LV=Cup, with the Ospreys the visitors to Kingsholm on Saturday.

He said: "It has been frustrating but if anything I didn't expect to have a season like I did last season. It's not great but I have to work hard and that's what rugby is about.

"I haven't really played so I wouldn't say it's second season syndrome or anything like that, I have to just put my head down and put the work in.

"A full 80 against Saracens was a bit of a shock to the system, Tom Palmer went down with a bit of flu so I was chucked in late in the week and what a win at home it was.

"But to get another 80 away in Brive is great and shows if you put the work in you'll get your reward.

"I'm not looking to have a rest, I haven't really played so I'm looking forward to a good run in the LV=Cup and the Ospreys on Saturday."

Stooke's limited opportunities have been a result of increased competition with Tom Palmer signing in the summer and Tom Savage fit and firing after missing the majority of last season and concerns over his work-rate.

Those concerns were clearly conveyed to the Stow-on-the-Wold product and he has been working hard to address the issues.

There will be further competition next season with Mariano Galarza fit from injury and All Black lock Jeremy Thrush arriving.

But Stooke is still content with the way he is progressing and is grateful to have the LV=Cup as another stage on which to perform, with Harlequins the visitors a week later.

He added: "They just mentioned little things, working off the ball a bit harder and stuff that requires no skill – it's just working harder and getting in positions to help the team

"But coming in everyday is a lot easier when you're winning. We're loving lift at the moment; the boys are putting in good shifts and working hard.

"What we're doing in training, we're putting onto the pitch and it goes to show what we can do.

"Everyone knows what the LV=Cup is about, it's about giving young boys an opportunity and that's exactly what we will be doing.

"Two games at Kingsholm, some young blood coming through, we will be looking to put on a good show and continue this run of form and it's a rare 3pm start on a Saturday afternoon which is brilliant."
