Talking point: Chelsea fight proves Capital One Cup is still worth winning

Who said the league cup is a second-rate competition? After a fast and furious semi-final second leg between Chelsea and Liverpool was decided on Tuesday night, I am not convinced.

With Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur in the hunt for the second place in the Capital One Cup final on Wednesday, although both clubs may have more pressing matters in their respective league campaigns, no one is going to turn down a trip to Wembley.

An extra-time winner from Branislav Ivanovic sent Chelsea into the final at Wembley after a superb contest against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

Now, the League One outfield Sheffield United look to turnover a one-goal deficit against Tottenham in the other half of the competition as the two clubs go head-to-head for a place against Jose Mourinho's Chelsea.

The debate as to whether the competition is important to top clubs anymore is hard to argue with the country's top-two teams headlining in the past two years.

I am sure Mourinho wouldn't swap it for a Chelsea title win in the Premier League but nothing is going to remove that winning mentality.
