The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a baby, St James's Palace announced today.
The duchess was today admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London with acute morning sickness and is expected to stay in hospital for several days, the palace announced this afternoon.
A St James Palace statement said: "Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby.
"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news."
The Dean of Gloucester, the Very Reverend Stephen Lake, wished the couple well. He said: "I am sure everybody would join together in wishing the Duke and Duchess every happiness. Our prayers will be with them in the months ahead."
The Prime Minister, David Cameron, congratulated the couple on Twitter saying he was "delighted' to hear the news adding William and Kate would make great parents.
