READERS are being asked to deck their houses out in lights to help seriously ill children in the county.

The Citizen has again launched its Christmas Sparkler competition to find the home with the best outside decorations.

This year, the winner will get £100 in Gloucester Quays vouchers and the runner up will get £50 of vouchers.

At the same time, we want people to collect money for the children's charity James Hopkins Trust's Overnight campaign to build a bedroom extension at its Barnwood base.

Vance Hopkins, from the trust, said:

"The children we care for need 24-hour nursing care which can be exhausting for our families. "Therefore, it is incredibly important to be able to provide them with nursing respite care at Christmas."

Rebecca Jeal from Gloucester Quays said they were delighted to sponsor the contest again.

"We love the spirit of this competition and we're looking forward to seeing the entries," she said. "And of course it's for a very worthwhile cause so we're doubly happy to be involved again."
