DISCUSSIONS over the future of beleaguered electricals chain Comet continued yesterday, with several buyers rumoured to be interested in taking over.

John Roberts, the entrepreneur behind Appliances Online, confirmed he had tabled a seven-figure offer for the firm's website.

Administrator Deloitte is also understood to have received a bid for 140 of the 195 Comet stores, which could save more than 2,000 jobs, according to reports in The Sun newspaper.

Deloitte said it had been in discussions with a number of interested parties.

Although 41 stores are set to close before the end of the month, Cheltenham's Tewkesbury Road branch is not among them.

However, Mr Roberts said it was unlikely Comet would survive in any form on retail parks, with its future hinging on online sales.

Comet's collapse marks one of the biggest high street casualties since the demise of Woolworths in 2008. Some 1,500 posts at the collapsed electricals chain have already been axed, including 603 home delivery network jobs.
