What's your favourite Gloucestershire day out?

Batsford Arboretum in the autumn followed by my wife and I enjoying a coffee in the Batsford café.

And your favourite place to eat out in the county?

If it's an occasional treat then the Daffodil in Cheltenham; or alternatively the Plough at Ford.

What's the worst job you've ever had?

Door-to-door charity collecting in the 1970s – I lasted two days – I felt guilty I was on commission.

Have you got any unusual habits?

I like the number eight……it just has a good feel about it!

Who is your hero and why?

The late great Martin Luther King Jnr. No contest. Not only for his extreme personal bravery in campaigning for human rights and equal treatment for all; and laying down his life for his beliefs but also because his wisdom is as urgently needed now as it ever was in 1963.

What book are you reading at the moment or tell us your favourite?

I love so many 20th and 21st Century novels: 'The Captain's Table', 'Pilgermann', 'Jewel in the Crown' to name but a few! But my favourite would have to be Edmund de Waal's 2010 family memoir, 'The Hare with Amber Eyes'.

What was the last film you watched?

Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones in 'Hope Springs' – billed as a comedy, it was pretty lame.

First single/record you ever bought?

My Boy Lollipop by Millie was the first single and much cooler was the first LP – which I still have – it weighs a ton and is Stand Up by Jethro Tull.

Facebook or Twitter? (And what is your twitter handle/name?)

Twitter = @ArmenianJames.
