CRISIS has hit Hucclecote Parish Council after two more councillors announced they were resigning.

It brings the number of vacancies to three and an urgent appeal has been launched to find people to step up and fill the roles.

Councillor Justine Bennett gave notice of her departure ahead of a council meeting on Monday night citing "personal reasons".

Mark Little has also said he will be leaving the council within the next few weeks as he is moving out of the area.

Parish councillors must live in Hucclecote or within three miles of its boundaries.

Earlier this month, Councillor Judy Mean also cited "personal reasons" when she handed in her notice.

The departures will cut the size of the council by a third – from nine to six.

Although it does not affect its decision-making powers, it will put a strain on the remaining councillors who are responsible for attending meetings, carrying out play area checks and opening and closing the village hall.

Parish chairwoman Barbara Martin said: "We are in a bit of bother.

"We are not a huge parish council and we desperately need people to come forward. It's a bit concerning to have so many vacancies as we don't have anybody in mind to replace them."

The population of Hucclecote parish will double by the time the Cooper's Edge development is complete.

Mrs Martin said they are keen to have someone from that area and also from Sussex Gardens on the council to ensure their views and concerns are heard.

To be a councillor you must be over 18, a citizen of the European Union, live within the parish or within three miles of the parish boundary and have resided in this area for the previous 12 months.
