A woman from Cheltenham was involved in a collision in Oxfordshire on Monday night which resulted in her death.
Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses to the fatal road crash, which involved a pedastrian.
A silver Ford Ka collided with the 21-year-old woman on the Oxford-bound carriageway of the A40 between Forrest Hill and Thornhill Park and Ride at around 10.30pm.
Emergency services were called at 10.33pm.
Police also believed the woman was struck by other vehicles, and there has been no arrest yet. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police Constable James Mahony, of the Joint Roads Policing Unit based in Abingdon, said: "We would like to speak to anyone who may have seen this woman walking along the unlit section of the A40 heading towards Oxford just before 10.30pm.
"We would also like to speak to anyone who did not stop but who thinks that they may have struck something in the carriageway at around that time and place, but were not aware that it was a person.
"We would ask anyone who has any information about this collision to contact us as a matter of urgency."
Anyone with any information should call the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on 101 and ask to speak to PC Mahony at Abingdon Roads Policing Unit.
The woman's next of kin has been informed
