A hospital worker who hit a cat with her car has saved its life by taking it to a vet.

The woman, who does not want to be named, was 'horrified' when she hit the young, black and white female cat as she drove into Gloucestershire Royal Hospital on Great Western Road, in Gloucester, last night at 10.50pm.

She flagged down police officers inside the hospital who brought out a box and she used a towel from her car to get the cat to Wood Veterinary Group in Quedgeley, where the cat remains.

It is being treated today, but the worker wants to locate the owner so that they can be reunited.

She said: "I was horrified. It was dark and I heard this noise. I couldn't just leave it as I don't want to see it suffering. I've lost one of my own cats before and the driver didn't stop so I know how it feels."

The owner of the cat can contact Citizen reporter Mike Wilkinson on 01452 698817 or by email to mike.wilkinson@glosmedia.co.uk.
