NEWLY promoted Lydney cannot rest on their laurels for their two remaining National Three fixtures. An emphatic 71-17 victory over Chippenham at Regentsholme last weekend secured Lydney promotion back up to National Two after relegation last year. But now they face 11th placed Worcester away, a side which could easily get dragged into the relegation fight at the other end of the table. Full-back and kicker Tony Wicks will miss the Worcester clash, as will second row vice-captain Will Jones. Jack O'Connell will take on the kicking duties. Senior team manager Colin Henderson insists the side cannot be complacent and must ensure they play for pride now. He said: "Worcester are fighting relegation and will be a strong side. "So now we must play as if we haven't won and carry on as normal. We will take a good side to Worcester and play for it." Henderson spoke of his relief and joy to see Lydney get promoted, less than a year after best friend and club stalwart Gordon Sargent passed away. He continued: "It was a huge relief to get promotion and to do it in style. "There was a big crowd, a lot of sponsors were there, and it was a great day for the club. "It was a little bit emotional. All Sarge would have wanted was promotion, he didn't want limelight. "So it was all about the club and about getting Lydney back to where it belongs." Now the club are officially preparing for life in National Two, the coaching staff are actively recruiting to strengthen the squad for next season. Henderson added: "In certain positions we need strength and depth."
