THE average reported surplus of unwanted Stroud District Council wheelie bins stands at 12,500.

At 1.08m (42.5in) high, laid top to bottom, they would reach 13.5km (8.38 miles) – roughly twice the distance from Ebley Mill to Pike Quarry recycling centre near Horsley.

At 11.36kg (25lb) each their total mass is 142,000kg (140 tons) which, if they are made from recyclable plastic (are they?), might become approximately 218,462 green boxes or 202,857 recycling bags.

I might then get the bag I have been promised and waiting for since July.
