ANGRY residents are demanding to know why roadworks in Brockworth have sat unfinished for weeks.
They say BT contractors began digging up Ermin Street near Vicarage Lane six weeks ago and put three way traffic lights in place, clogging up the roads.
Since then they have had to put up with traffic queues, loss of phone lines and disrupted bin collections.
The work had been due to finish on Friday last week.
Villagers' blood boiled over on Tuesday after they noticed the hole was still uncovered and no one had been on site for more than 10 days.
Vicarage Court resident Sophia Page, who has lived there for 15 years, said: "We are just fed up with it. We want our road back.
"They started digging it up six weeks ago and it's in a right mess.
"We have had some decent weather in the last week but not a single workman has been on site in the last eight days."
Neighbour John Jones, who has lived at Vicarage Court for seven years, said: "One elderly lady uses her phone as a lifeline and she was cut off for two weeks.
"It's shocking that they can do this without any apology.
"Our rubbish hasn't been collected in a week and it is sitting there waiting to become a rat infestation.
"They need to clear up these roadworks so the binmen can get access again."
Chairman of Brockworth parish council Jim Hunt said he had spoken to BT and Gloucestershire Highways on Tuesday.
He said: "They have said there has been a hold up because of a major problem but they should be finished by Friday.
"I don't think they realised how big a job it was.
"I can understand people's frustration but there is nothing more we can do.
"We just have to wait and see."
A spokesman for BT said two jobs to replace pipes for telephone cables were going on in the road.
He said they were scheduled to be completed this week and added: "We are doing all we can."
