Commuters are in for major disruption in Cheltenham when parts of the A40 Gloucester Road for sewer repairs and re-surfacing.
Severn Trent Water and Gloucestershire County Council wil be carrying out the works.
Gloucester Road will be closed from the A40 stretching to the beginning of St George's Road, and Queens Road will close from Gloucester Road to the railway station car park entrance in August on Sundays 4, 11 and 18.
Also, from Monday August 5 to Saturday, August 10, Gloucester Road will be closed between Libertus Road and Sewer Road for sewer repairs in the area.
Residents will still be able to get to their homes while the work is going on, but there will be no access for other vehicles until the work is complete.
Once Severn Trent has finished, Gloucestershire Highways will carry out significant road resurfacing work from Monday 19 to Friday 23 August along Gloucester Road from the A40 to Roman Road.
Again residents will still be able to get to and from their homes and workers will be available to help where needed, however the road will remain closed to other vehicles.
Diversions will be in place for these closures and pedestrian access will be permitted where it is safe.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood said: "We've taken the opportunity to schedule these repairs and improvements during the school holidays and at same time to cut down on the disruption for anyone using the road, which we know is a busy main route.
"This is important work for both Severn Trent and for us and while there may be inconvenience, I would ask people to please be patient.
"I look forward to seeing the work finished and I am sure it'll make a big difference for local residents and anyone who uses the busy road."
