WITH sweltering heat creating sweaty workplaces, calls are being made for a new 'maximum temperature' law to protect employees. Labour MP's have raised a motion in Parliament encouraging a new law to be passed that allows workers to be sent home when the temperature reaches 30C. Workers in Cheltenham have echoed this view, saying there should be legislation which sets a maximum acceptable temperature in certain workplaces such as offices and stores. An employee at an office in Cheltenham town centre, who asked not to be named, said there is no air con, which he said is "horrific" for him and his colleagues. He said: "We're all dripping with sweat just from getting up and going to the photocopier. We're still having to wear smart shirts and ties too, which is ridiculous. "It's unbearable. They should look at some kind of law to set a maximum temperature for offices and shops and other places where you have to wear a uniform and work indoors." Do you think there should be a law to set the maximum working temperature? Have your say in the comment section below.
