URBANITES should be made to learn about the charms of rural life, a former England cricketer has said.
David Gower, the Sky Sports presenter, believes countryside issues should be made compulsory learning at school with a mandatory exam.
And failing the exam twice would mean a ban from voting.
The 56-year-old who lives in Hampshire said he finds it "irritating" when issues affecting the countryside are decided on by those who live in cities.
Mr Gower told Reader's Digest that if he ruled the world he would bring in laws to address the balance between built up and green areas.
He said: "I live in the country and find it irritating when issues that affect it are decided by city dwellers, many of whom love Tarmac, are allergic to grass and find it hard to understand where Morris dancing came from."
"It would be really good for town and country folk, when they're at school, to learn about each other," he explained.
