GULLS beware – Megan the hawk is in town and she is not afraid to lay down the law.

The bird of prey dropped in at The Brewery complex in Cheltenham yesterday to keep the noisy squawkers at bay.

It comes after residents living nearby complained about the noise the birds were causing, nesting on the building's roof.

Megan, who has large talons and an impressive wingspan, was on hand to patrol the brewery with her handler Mathew Kimberley, swooping over the building to keep the pesky gulls on their toes.

Demelsa Coleman, marketing and communications manager at The Brewery, said Megan would be visiting the venue every fortnight in order to keep a tight ship.

She said: "There has been a definite decrease in the number of seagulls and pigeons at The Brewery since Megan arrived.

"She is a beautiful bird and it's amazing that as soon as she arrives the gulls clear off.

"She doesn't attack or catch other birds. She just lets them know this is her territory and it helps to stop them nesting in the vicinity so it's great to have a natural deterrent."

Noise caused by the birds is currently at a high due to it being the middle of breeding season.

Some businesses have opted for other deterrents with staff at HA Fox Jaguar dealers placing a fake owl on the roof.
