The latest chapter in the City's regeneration will open this week when the new body which will advise the City Council on the regeneration of Gloucester is officially launched (Wednesday July 17).
The Gloucester Regeneration Advisory Board will study the work being carried out by Gloucester City Council – and provide advice, comment and feedback.
The move marks the next phase in the 'Gloucester story'. Responsibility for regeneration in the City now lies with The City Council, with advice from the new Board.
More than 50 developers, property agents and builders are among the invited audience to the event which fittingly takes place at Blackfriars Priory – the best preserved medieval Dominican Prioryin Britain.
They will hear from a group of speakers including:
·The Dean of Gloucester, The Very Reverend Stephen Lake, who chairs the new Board. He will talk about the importance and value of future developments in the City.
·City Council Leader, Paul James, will talk about the achievements during the time of the Heritage Urban Regeneration Company, and the vision and aspirations for the future.
·City Council Chief Executive, Julian Wain, will describe the opportunities that are still available for development in the City and the investor confidence that has already seen £700 million spent or committed in Gloucester.
·Local architect Stephen Limbrick will describe why Gloucester is a great company base for his business.
Commented Dean Stephen: "Gloucester has been bucking the national trends when it comes to regeneration. The amount of money invested or committed over the past several years is significant and demonstrates that there is a lot of confidence in the City.
"We are now entering a new phase in our progress and it is only right that we should 'set out our stall' and outline the future as we see it to the people who are or will be investing in, developing and building our City of the future."
