MARK Yates was today expecting an answer from his primary target as he begins to finalise his plans for Cheltenham Town's new season.
The Robins boss considers the squad to be three players light of where it needs to be when the League Two campaign kicks off on August 3 with a home match against Burton Albion.
He is known to be keen on a left-sided wide player and another striker with an extra central defensive option also a possibility.
"I am three short of what I want and I am waiting on one thing happening before I do anything with anyone else," Yates said.
"I am waiting for one specific player and I should have more of an answer on Monday."
One player linked with a move to the Abbey Business Stadium is former Brighton and MK Dons midfielder Mark Wright, who is a free agent after leaving Shrewsbury Town.
Yates refused to rule out a move for long-time target Luke Rooney, but the Swindon Town winger is known to be attracting interest from other clubs.
"I have not closed to door on Luke Rooney, but I am just waiting on things," Yates said.
Cheltenham's squad, including trialists Josh Rees, Joe Anyinsah and Danny O'Donnell, were this morning due to travel to the University of South Wales for a five-day training camp.
They will have two sessions a day either side of an afternoon rest, while the evenings will be based on team-bonding and Yates is also planning an activity day.
"All of the trialists have done well and I want them all to come with us to Wales," Yates said.
"I am not in a position to be able to offer any of them anything at the moment, but by the time next Saturday comes around I will give them definite answers."
Yates said there were plenty of positives to take from Saturday's 2-1 friendly win at Cirencester Town, among them Terry Gornell making his first appearance during the second half.
The former Accrington and Shrewsbury striker arrived on a two-year deal last Friday.
"It was a good end to a decent week's work for us and we scored two good goals and could have had a few more," Yates said.
"Credit to both teams for the way they went about it in such hot conditions and I thought there were a lot of positives for us.
"Terry Gornell is a very good player and I am delighted to have got him because he complements what we have here already."
Jamie Cureton opened the scoring in the 11th minute, with Sam Deering adding the second after Joe Shepherd had equalised for Cirencester.
"Jamie makes chances for himself, but for the goal it was a great header after a great cross from Jermaine (McGlashan).
"He is 5ft nothing, but his timing and movement are excellent and everything is building nicely towards the start of the season now."
