ROBERT Allen has appeared in court in connection with an assault which left a man fighting for his life.
The 36-year-old, of Overton Road, Lansdown, appeared before Cheltenham magistrates on Saturday, charged with causing grievous bodily harm.
He entered no plea and the case was committed to Gloucester Crown Court on August 1.
A second man, who was arrested in connection with the assault, has been released without charge.
Detectives are still investigating after 42-year-old Andrew Chapman, from Cheltenham, was attacked in Trinity Lane, close to Trinity Church, at 8.20pm on Wednesday.
He suffered a life-threatening head injury which left him in a critical condition.
Mr Chapman is being treated at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.
