BURGEONING interest in Gloucester's ghostly goings-on means a shop dedicated to telling tourists more about them is to open next week.
Lyn Cinderey has been conducting ghost walks around Gloucester for 10 years, and clairvoyant evenings for 20, but never had a base of her own.
The new Gloucester Ghost Walks shop in lower Westgate Street will fulfil that role, and act as an information point for tourists arriving in the city. The unit she is occupying has been empty for years.
"People are always asking me what's on and where, and I needed a base for the walks and for my clairvoyant and paranormal nights, so this seemed like a good idea," said Lyn.
"The Tourist Information Centre does a good job but this will promote the really local events as well.
"The footfall there is great and we have had a lot of interest already."
City councillor for Westgate and Hempsted, Pam Tracey, will officially open the new venture on Wednesday, July 17.
"I think it's wonderful," said Coun Tracey (Conservative). "They have gone out and done it, which is very admirable and I am sure it will be a great asset to the city, its businesses and tourists.
"That area of lower Westgate is perfect for it."
Lyn's ghost walks have usually been based at one of the city's many historic inns, and they will continue to feature strongly in her tours.
She is still investigating ghostly goings-on at the Dick Whittington pub nearby in Westgate Street. Sounds of "dinner parties" have been heard upstairs when no-one is up there and shadows apparently of its owner John Taylor have been spotted flitting around the building, as have smallpox victims from more than 400 years ago.
"There are many stories to be told and quite a few ghosts that I still want to look in to," said Lyn. "Gloucester has a rich history and so many ghost stories to tell."
