SUMMER tours set to launch next month will serve up a treat for people wanting to delve into Gloucester's historic past.

Two sets of summer tours will throw the spotlight on Gloucester's 2,000 years of history.

Both are based around a Roman 'theme', with the first taking people under the city streets and into the Eastgate Chamber – outside Boots in Eastgate Street. The second tour will be a leisurely stroll around the city with important Roman features pointed out along the route.

Tours will take place during July and August.

Eastgate Chamber tours take place at 12pm every Wednesday, with visitors meeting at the nearby city museum in Brunswick Road, and will last around 30 minutes. It will offer a close up look at substantial pieces of Roman Wall, containing murals depicting how and why the wall was built. The chamber also contains a section of a medieval wall from 1250.
