IT'S now water all the way from Capel's Mill to Wallbridge as the Stroud canal restoration presses on apace.

A water feeder channel has been created between the new waterway at Capel's Mill and Wallbridge Lock.

A special Swedish designed and built amphibious excavator was used.

Its operator Damien Hobbis did all the work in reverse.

The Stroud District Council-led Cotswold Canals Project is undertaking the reopening of the waterways and its spokesman Dave Marshall said: "This was a stop-gap measure."

Backpumping had taken place but if the trench had not been cut through silt blocking the route fish may have died.

It is hoped to dredge the channel through Cheapside late this year or early next.
