POSTBOXES painted gold to mark Olympic and Paralympic wins in the summer will not be returned to their iconic shades of red.
Royal Mail will keep the boxes gold permanently as a lasting reminder of the success of Team GB.
Each post box will also have a plaque which names the athlete and their achievement.
Among the boxes painted gold was the one in High Street, Cheltenham, celebrating Alex Gregory's win in the men's four rowing.
There is also one in Ampney Saint Peter, painted to mark Laura Bechtolsheimer's Olympic gold medal for the Equestrian Team Dressage.
A total of 110 postboxes were repainted during the summer, and the decision is the first time in Royal Mail's history that it has left boxes a different colour permanently to mark an achievement.
Moya Greene, chief executive of Royal Mail, said; "We are delighted at the way people took to this simple idea.
"The gold postboxes gave communities even more opportunity to mark the successes of Team GB and Paralympics GB - and became a part of local celebrations of London 2012 across the UK."
