POLICE have issued a warning about rogue door-to-door traders after an elderly woman from Stroud was charged over the odds.

A man visited the property in Deans Quarry, Burleigh at around 1.45pm on June 7.

The victim, a 74 year old woman, allowed the man into her house and he explained that he was poor.

He then said he had some cleaning items that she might be interested in buying including two dusters, shoe insoles, garden shears and a floor cloth. She wrote him a cheque for the quoted price of £180.

Inspector Andy Poole said: "This incident serves as a reminder to residents of the dangers of buying items from people you don't know. If someone arrives at your door that hasn't got a pre-arranged appointment, don't be afraid to ask them to come back at a later date. If in doubt, keep them out."
