THIS week, the Echo celebrates 140 years of serving the community by writing about the issues that matter.

But what big birthday would be complete without a special cake.

Echo staff were overjoyed to receive a special cake from Janes Pantry.

Manager Neville Morse said the Cheltenham bakery had just opened a dedicated coffee shop and celebration department, where shoppers could watch the cake decorators at work. Echo editor Kevan Blackadder donated the cake to Bettridge School.

The Echo will be looking back at its 140 years in a special supplement being printed in the newspaper tomorrow.

An exhibition of the newspaper's past will also run this week at Regent Arcade. The first 140 visitors to the exhibition who buy an Echo will be treated to a specially-made cupcake from Janes Pantry.
