YOUNGSTERS did their bit to help poverty-stricken children in Tanzania.

Thirty-three infant pupils at St Edward's School in Cheltenham raised awareness and a small amount of money for the Kili4Kids charity.

Paying £1 each, they enjoyed a small hike around the long grass in fields near the Charlton Kings school.

It was in support of Gareth Lewis, who is due to climb Mount Kilimanjaro soon in aid of the charity. He is married to the school's kindergarten teacher Janet Lewis.

The aim is to raise money to purchase land so the charity can build a permanent kids' club in Tanzania.

School spokeswoman Amanda Naylor said: "It is aimed to reach more than 250 children who live in a disused quarry, living below the poverty line."

Pupils saw a slide show to learn more about the quarry children. St Edward's has supported the charity in the past, raising money to buy shoes and a mosquito net.
